CLIENT: SHOCKWAVE | RELEASED: MAR 2005
CHALLENGE
Shockwave.com challenged Fuel to create a racing game that didn't look like every other one out there - and that would have significant replay value.
STRATEGY
Make it dark. Make it gritty. Create landscapes and vehicles that haven't been used before in other online racers, with multiple tracks to explore for repeat gameplay. To keep users pushing harder, extra features can be unlocked - including special vehicles.

CREATIVE & EXECUTION
The city and surrounding environment is one of the most elaborate ever developed for a web-based racing game. Intricate details like labels on crates in the warehouse, stairs leading up to the entrances of skyscrapers and nails in the boards on the covered bridge all add a sense of realism and richness to the game. But this is no friendly city - a nuclear reactor adds a sense of omnipresent darkness, and the evening gloom that hangs over the city makes the world almost more interesting than the speed.

Users can choose from four vehicles and modify them - from an old roadster to a Highway Patrol car - even modified street racers. Hit spacebar for an extra speedboost and overtake the other vehicles, sideswiping them on turbo inside the old covered bridge leading into the city.
PERFORMANCE
Speed Demon is one of the most successful racing games ever developed for Shockwave.com, and is being played by hundreds of thousands of people each month.
