HELP THE GEEK GET THE GLORY SERVER QUEST

CLIENT: MICROSOFT | RELEASED: JAN 2008

CHALLENGE

Microsoft wanted a unique campaign to promote its TechNet service, one which would both pull back the veil of ones and zeros surrounding I.T. professionals, and make the valuable service more accessible to people working in the tech industry. Knowing Fuel was comprised of a world-class roster of geeks, Microsoft saw our ideas and knew we were the natural choice.

STRATEGY

Fuel dug deep into its collective love of gaming to develop a brand new interactive adventure called Server Quest. We knew that today's I.T. pros had likely been weaned on the golden age of gaming, particularly the point-and-click adventure games of the early nineties. So, with our team's knowledge of tech trivia, and designers who, themselves were huge fans of that era of gaming, it was a sure thing.

CREATIVE AND EXECUTION

Server Quest takes players back to a simpler time, when pixels were far from invisible and emotions were rendered in 256 colors. You play the role of Matt, an I.T. genius who must navigate his way through the perils of office life while trying to prove to the office's arrogant sales guy, Chase, that I.T. is the lifeblood of the workplace.

In order to win his respect, players will need to guide Matt through various technology-based puzzles and mini games which will determine whether or not he is clever enough to reign supreme in the annals of geekdom. If he can??t prove his mettle, he??ll remain the office's under-appreciated tech troubleshooter.

The game launched with a story trailer which introduced our hero Matt to the world, and also featured a number of I.T. easter eggs to be discovered, including gapingvoid's Blue Monster, and an appearance from the Linux penguin.
