CLIENT: NICKELODEON | RELEASED: AUG 2005
CHALLENGE
Nick.com, Nickelodeon’s youth-focused entertainment website, is one of the most popular gaming and activity sites online for the child and tween demographics. Our challenge was to develop a game using Jimmy Neutron, one of their most popular shows, that would wow the most demanding audience on the web – kids. Since a considerable number of games have already been developed for the property online, the challenge was not only to create an engaging experience – but to come at it from an innovative perspective.
STRATEGY
We wanted to put the power to create in the hands of kids. While we built the game around a fifteen minute segment of a popular episode of the show, allowing players to live out an event they had viewed on television, the real engagement in the game is delivered by the players via the Level Editor. Players were able to create their own levels to share with friends using all of the resources available to Fuel’s game designers.

CREATIVE & EXECUTION
The devious, nefarious, and generally mean, Professor Calamitous has trapped Cindy in a bubble. Jimmy and Timmy have to collect parts of the Debubbleotron that have been scattered throughout Retroville to get her out of there – fast.
Through over a dozen environments in Retroville, players must avoid Magnetomozoids and find the items they need to rescue Cindy.
The Level Editor allows players to create levels through a simple interface, and even rate the levels of others that have been shared.

A Flash video tutorial helps younger children learn how to play the game and create their own levels, since we all know no one reads instructions.
Collect speed boosts and other power-ups as you use your Robo-Ray and other weapons to slow down the robots that patrol the streets of Retroville under Professor Calamitous’ bidding. Each level is unique posing a different challenge than the last – some are open streets, while others feel like concrete mazes. Multiple elements, including detailed city streets, mail boxes, street grates that will stop you in your tracks – even toxic waste containers provide a rich experience within Retroville.
PERFORMANCE
In the first week the game was played over 1.4 million times by nearly 800,000 kids, and thousands have created their own levels.
