Mini Bet on Soldier Game Review

BY: BRIAN ROBBINS  |  Advergame reviews, Advergames

Mini Bet on Soldier is an advergame promoting the game Bet on Soldier.

Game play is simple and consists of you using the mouse to aim your weapon and kill the enemy. You can use 1-4 to change weapons, and the spacebar to zoom. You have to spend money for every shot fired and you earn money for every kill, with headshots giving more money.

What I liked: The gameplay is very simple, and still compelling. There’s enough skill and variation provided to keep users playing for more than 30 seconds, yet it can be instantly picked up.

While normally I wouldn’t agree with the control scheme which requires a keyboard, given the audience (hardcore gamers), this keyboard scheme is acceptable.

This is also a great example of integrating a product in such a way as to expand and accurately promote the brand. After playing this game I have an understanding of what the full game would offer, yet I don’t think that I’ve experience everything.

What I didn’t like: At the end of the game there is a screen with several different options including a “Win casion chips” and “Start a league” button. I’d like to know what the leagues are all about, and why I should start one, but there doesn’t seem to be any information on that screen.

The casino chips contest also cheapens the experience. The chips in the top left were the first thing I saw when I came to the site, and as a result my first reaction was that this was promoting an online gambling site.

Overall: This is a very strong advergame. They do a great job integrating the brand/product experience without ramming it down the player’s throat. They also provide several ways to send this to friends but again, it doesn’t feel forced.

The only real negative is the casino chip concept which the promotion could do without, and still have just as much, if not more, traction in the target market.
