Introducing the IGDA Casual Games SIG

BY: BRIAN ROBBINS  |  Advergames, Casual Games, Game Industry

The press release is now starting to hit the wires, so we can finally announce the formation of the IGDA’s Casual Games SIG. This SIG is going to focus on casual game development, including web/downloadable titles, advergames, etc. We created it to address the growing needs of this rapidly expanding marketplace.

Currently there is no single comprehensive source of information or place to network with casual game developers, and we hope to address that issue. We plan to issue white papers and reports on casual game issues, a quarterly e-zine with discussion and interviews from developers, publishers and retailers in the space. We’re also providing a means for easy communication between developers with the casual games mailing list.

If you have any interest in this area of games, I strong encourage you to check out the website and get involved. We’ll also be at the Casual games conference next week where we hope to make a more formalized announcement to the developer community.

Update: You can read the full press release here.

RSS!? Sheesh! We only launched the SIG this week!

In all honesty I’m not sure what more RSS would provide, as the goal for the list will be to get people talking and participating in the discussion.

I’ve never seen an e-mail list have an RSS feed associated, but it could be interesting.
